Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education (IDIA) is a non- profit organization working in India which aims to empower underprivileged children by providing them with equal access to quality legal education. IDIA, founded by Prof. (Dr.) Shamnad Basheer, is a student-run organization that aims to train underprivileged students and transform them into leading lawyers and community advocates.

We conduct sensitizations across India to spread awareness among underprivileged children about opportunities in pursuing law as a career, select promising students and provide training for law entrance examinations, including the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), provide financial aid and mentorship to these students once they secure their admission to a leading law school.

About the Workshop

After a successful event in 2021, the IDIA Chapter of West Bengal is proud to announce the fourth edition of the IDIA Legal Workshop.

This workshop will consist of seven different sessions and will be held on 29 and 30 January, 2022.

The workshop is being conducted to help the participants to improve their skills in various activities that are part and parcel of life in a law school.

The following are the session cum speaker list:

1. Session on Mooting Skills by Ashika Jain and Pratyay Panigrahi (4th Year, NUJS Students).

2. Session on Debating by Abishek Sankar (5th Year, NUJS Student).

3. Session on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) by Ananya Agrawal (4th Year, NUJS Student).

4. Session on CV Writing by Saurav Rajurkar (Associate at SAM, Alumnus of NUJS).

5. Session on Research and Writing Skills by Tanishk Goyal (4th Year, NUJS Student).

6. Session on Career after Law School by Advocate Surjendu Sankar Das (AOR at the Supreme Court and a former partner at SAM).

7. Session on Mental Health by Charvi Jain (Founder of Over a Cup of Tea).

The registered participants who attend all the sessions of the event shall receive an official certificate of participation from IDIA.

The IDIA-West Bengal Chapter has been involved in organizing such events in the past too as the team believes that these sessions provide a great opportunity for students who plan to enter law schools and existing students of law to understand various aspects of life at law school. These sessions are taken by experienced people which helps the students to deconstruct what it takes to thrive in law school - while still giving them space to chart their own path.

In addition to being a workshop that helps students in improving their skills related to extra-curricular activities which are undertaken in the law school, the said event also serves the purpose of helping the underprivileged children who are interested in the field of law as all the amount raised by the event is utilized by IDIA Central team to fund the various expenses incurred in training and development of IDIA Scholars. We are also glad to share with you that this time SCC has agreed to join as a media partner for our event.
