NPAC course on Arbitration Law to begin on May 2 - Register now!

The five-day intensive study course will be held at Chennai and is open to anyone interested in the theory and practice of arbitration.

The Nani Palkhivala Arbitration Centre (NPAC) is offering an intensive study course on the Theory and Practice of Arbitration Laws from May 2 to May 7, 2024 at the Sambasivan Auditorium, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Taramani, Chennai. 

The course will be flagged off with an inaugural event scheduled on the morning of May 2.

Former Madras High Court judge, Justice Prabha Sridevan will be rendering a special address while the welcome address will be rendered by NPAC director and senior advocate, Arvind Datar. The vote of thanks for the inaugural session will be rendered by senior advocate MS Krishnan.

The study course will feature addresses by several experts.

The speakers include former Madras High Court judge, Justice K Chandru, Fromer Additional Solicitor General R Sankaranarayanan, senior advocates NL Rajah, R Murari, Chitra Sampath, Sricharan Rangarachan, PH Arvindh Pandian, Arvind Datar and Om Prakash Ellanty, as well as advocates Triyambak Kannan, Anirudh Krishnan, Ramkishore Karanam, Sriram Venkatavardhan, Renu Gupta, Payal Chawla, Sai Sudharshan and Sharath Chandran.

The five-day course will cover the following, among other, topics:

  • Evolution of Arbitration Law

  • Arbitration Agreement

  • Types of Arbitration

  • Judicial Interference at Pre-Arbitration Stage

  • Arbitral Process as per the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996

  • Challenge to an Arbitral Award

  • Concept of a Foreign Award and challenges thereto

  • Amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act and Expert committee report

  • Seat and Venue in Arbitration

  • Issues in Sector Specific Arbitrations

The course is open to any person eager to learn about arbitration, including advocates, law students, arbitrators, in-house counsel, CAs, CSs, academicians, financial intermediaries and other professionals.

The valedictory session on May 7 will feature an address by Madras High Court judge, Justice PT Asha. The welcome remarks would be rendered by senior advocate NL Rajah while the vote of thanks will be given by senior advocate VS Jayakumar.

The fee to enroll for the course is ₹20,000, with special concession for students and junior advocates.
