Two students of the National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal have made complaints that seniors on campus indulged in ragging and even sexual abuse of freshers, reports The Indian Express.

Students have come forth with complaints that seniors forced them to watch porn until five in the morning and that a female senior student sexually molested a junior repeatedly while in an inebriated state.

There are allegations that hostel authorities and teachers were aware that alcohol consumption took place on campus, but turned a blind eye to it.

Following the complaints, the Proctoral Board headed by Rajiv Khare took the decision to conduct an investigation into the three complaints. As per a TOI report, the authorities summoned the named seniors and commenced recording the juniors’ statements on Saturday. There are allegations that a certain section of the seniors regularly torture freshers.

However, the authorities are facing difficulties in fixing responsibility on the culprits, as juniors are showing reluctance to identify the seniors complained of. Prof SS Singh, Director of the University, has indicated that while a probe has been ordered into the matter, everything alleged in the report is not true, considering that some of the persons mentioned in the complaints do not exist on campus.

Last year, a number of ragging complaints were recorded at NLIU, leading students to cancel the Freshers party.

Earlier this month, six students at the National Law University, Jodhpur were hauled up by an Anti-Ragging Committee on the complaint of a first year student. Three students who were found to have a direct role were suspended for a year. Two students playing a passive role were suspended for a semester and directed to pay a Rs. 20, 000 fine. One student, who was a bystander to the perpetrated acts was fined Rs. 5000.
