Over the last two years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Utkarsh Sharma, a fourth-year student at the United World School of Law.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law?

When I was in 8th Grade, I went for a Science Exhibition wherein one of the panelists was an Advocate. After having a conversation, I was inspired and motivated to pursue law and then my entire journey for pursuing law began.

In my opinion, Law offers the opportunity to develop a range of skills and explore many aspects of human life.

It gives us the chance to sharpen mind, strengthen understanding and deepen experience across the full range of humanities and social sciences. I choose to study law because a career in law is intellectually challenging, personally fulfilling and financially rewarding.

Moreover, law provides flexibility to youth like us to involve into politics as well.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

First of all, I am thankful to Bar & Bench for providing this wonderful opportunity to be the Campus Ambassador. Bar & Bench is one of the unique platform wherein the daily legal news, views, columns, interviews, viewpoint reaches the public at large.

I believed that this opportunity will allow me to gather complete industry knowledge and develop analytical skills which would help me a lot in my career ahead.

Being the Campus Ambassador at Bar & Bench provides me a value added point to mark in the campus as well as exposure and stepping stone to the Legal Journalism profession.

What are your plans after completing law?

I have planned to opt for Litigation as a career. I like reading files and listening to seniors arguing in the courts, which in a way attracted me towards litigation as a career option after completing law.

I believe that litigation is the pure practice of law wherein we get to learn the very basic nuts and bolts of the practice of law in India. I am very excited for litigation journey after completing law.
