Bar & Bench

Over the last two years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Priya Rani, a second-year law student at the Government Law College, Ernakulam in Kerala.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law?

To say I chose law maybe is wrong because I was a science student and never thought of law as an option. But that perspective changed over a period of time when I realised that everything around us is connected with an invisible thread of law, the absence of which is when we feel an unrest, the chaos around us and yet somehow, people avoid taking legal aid if they can help it mostly because they are not aware of their rights and that realisation made me take law as my subject.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

Bar and Bench is a leading online platform for anyone who wants to update and understand the intricacies of Law and I used to read it regularly much before I thought of law as an option.

Their presentation style, the impartial reporting and interesting articles both, inside and outside the court matters made it my quick go-to-page for any updates.

So, when I got my chance to apply as Campus Ambassador, I did not have any second thoughts and applied immediately. It is an honour to be associated with Bar and Bench.

What are your plans after completing law?

I definitely plan to practice as a lawyer for some time before I continue with my masters. I hope to do my PhD someday.
