Over the last two years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Gyanda Kakar, a second-year student at the Gujarat National Law University

Why did you choose to study law?

Unlike many, I never thought I would ever want to pursue law as a career. Maybe it would be right to say that it was through an elimination process. My grandfather served as a police officer during the British Raj and after his retirement, he taught criminal law subjects like IPC, CrPC in a security officers training course.

Law as they say just happened to me. Coming from a science background subjects like Scientific Investigation techniques like DNA Fingerprinting, IPR, Air and Space Law instantly appealed to me and I felt it was just the right thing to do.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

Being a first-generation lawyer, I found networking extremely difficult. I have previously represented various platforms, which helped me build my network.

Representing these platforms help me reach and network with leading industry professionals as well as explore new skills at the same time doing these tasks with the utmost professionalism.

These opportunities help build up skills which are extremely important in our careers.

What are your plans after completing law?

Before the BCI scrapped the 1 year LLM, my plan was to do an LLM and then think about a future job. Now, I think I will have to think about it again.
