The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir is accepting applications for internships, including 'e-internships', with its Chief Justice and sitting judges.
The internship programme is open to students enrolled in either a three-year or five-year law course at any institute of law/University recognised by the Bar Council of India.
An intern's work at/with the Court would include research, drafting notes of cases heard by the judge concerned, making conference notes for the judge and any other work as may be assigned, the notification states
Applications would be approved upon the recommendation of the university of the student, though candidates are allowed to apply directly to the Registrar General of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir.
Once applications are received, they would be circulated by the Registrar-General to the judges 'by seniority'. The candidate selected by the judge would be appointed as an intern at their office.
The notification states that a successful applicant shall be engaged on a 'purely temporary basis', for a period of one month, initially. The engagement may include winter or summer vacations.
This may, however, be extended, at the discretion of the judge concerned, and is not a right to regular appointment to the High Court. Neither does the extension imply continuance beyond the period of the engagement, the notification further specifies.
Eligibility:
The intern must a student:
enrolled in an LL.B course at a recognized Law College/ University who would be eligible for enrollment at the Bar as an Advocate at the end of her course.
with a good working knowledge of computers
a citizen of India.
Not engaged elsewhere on payment or honorarium basis or
not involved in any criminal case,
not convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude.
not involved in any disciplinary proceedings with the college or university in which studying or any other authority.
No fact that comes to the knowledge of an intern through her engagement at Court is permitted to be disclosed unless necessitated by her role/duties.
In case the intern is in the final year of her course, she shall not argue as a lawyer before the judge she has been engaged by for at least two years subsequent.
The internship would not involve a stipend, retainership, or fee of any kind.
