ILS Law College, Pune's Remembering Prof SP Sathe 17th International Moot Court Competition 2023

The theme for this year’s competition is Law & Economics- International Investment Law and Investor-State Dispute Settlement.

Established in 1924, ILS Law College is one of the oldest law schools in India and has been playing a pioneering role in legal education and scholarship in the country. Ninety-nine years since its establishment, the college has acquired the reputation of being a premier institution imparting quality legal education.

About the Moot

The Professor SP Sathe Foundation, set up by the Indian Law Society, organises the Remembering SP Sathe event series each year, which includes a Memorial Lecture, a Conference, and an International Moot Court Competition.

The Remembering Prof SP Sathe 17th International Moot Court Competition 2023 will be conducted in association with leading organisations - the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) as the academic partners, and SCC Online and Eastern Book Company as the knowledge partners. 

The theme for this year’s Competition is Law & Economics- International Investment Law and Investor-State Dispute Settlement.

Eligibility

Students enrolled in a full-time bachelor's (three-year or five-year or the equivalent of the same in a non-Indian university) law program at the time of the competition in any Indian or Foreign Law University are eligible to compete in the Competition. Each College/Law School or University may enrol only one team.

 A team shall be composed of either:

a. Two members: both speakers; or

b. Three members: two speakers and one researcher.

Registration 

For Indian Teams:

Registration for the competition can be done by filling the google form also available here.

The link for payment of registration fees is available here.

Teams must first complete the payment and then attach proof of payment in the form of a screenshot in (.jpeg or .jpg format) or a PDF file in the google form before 11:59 PM IST on 15 January 2023.

  1. Registration fee inclusive of GST (Non-refundable) for Memorial Qualifier Round for Indian Teams is ₹2,000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only).

  2. Registration fee inclusive of GST (Non-refundable) for Indian teams qualifying for the oral rounds is ₹10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand only).

For Foreign Teams

Registration for the Competition can be done out by filling the google form available here.

The payment of registration fees shall be done by bank transfer to the bank account details mentioned below. Teams must first complete the payment and then attach proof of payment in the form of a screenshot (.jpeg or .jpg format) or a PDF file in the google form before 11:59 PM IST on 15 January 2023.

  1. Registration fee inclusive of GST (Non-refundable) for Memorial Qualifier Round for Foreign Teams is USD 60 (US Dollars Fifty only).

  2. Registration fee (Non-refundable) for foreign teams qualifying for the oral rounds is USD 180 (US Dollars One Hundred Fifty only).

  3. All administrative charges leviable by the bank are to be borne by the registering teams.

  5. Memorial submission deadline: 5 February 2023

  6. Announcement of teams qualifying for oral rounds: 15 February 2023

  7. Dates of the Competition: 24 - 26 March 2023

Prizes for the competition are as follows:

  1. Winning Team: One year access to SCC Online Platinum Plus, Trophy and Certificates

  2. Runners-up team: Trophy and Certificates

  3. Best and Second-Best Memorials: Certificates

  4. Best and Second-Best Student Advocates of the Competition: Certificates

  5. Best Speaker of the Finals: Certificates

  6. Justice V. A. Naik Prize for the Best team from Maharashtra: Trophy and Certificates

  7. Members of each team will receive a certificate of participation.

Winners will also be awarded internships with the Academic Partners: Singapore International Arbitration Centre and Centre for Trade and Investment Law as well as cash prizes which will be announced soon!
