Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education (IDIA) is a non-profit organization working in India that aims to empower underprivileged and marginalized children by giving them access to quality legal education.

IDIA sensitizes students from across the country to Law as a career option, selects underprivileged and marginalized students with an aptitude for law, trains them, and provides scholarships to the students on gaining admission to law schools. IDIA not only enables access to legal education but also fosters diversity at the leading law schools, thereby enriching the very process of legal education.

IDIA Delhi Chapter is conducting the second edition of its Article Writing Competition on the theme Intellectual Property Rights. The organisation believes that the dynamism inherent in this up and coming area of legal practice makes for interesting advancement in original scholarship, and offers a chance to all law students to hone their research and writing skills, which are critical for success within the legal profession.

The judge for this competition is Ms Gayatri Roy, partner at Saraf and Partners. She is well know for IP transactional practice as well as trademark and patent litigation. Her predominant practice areas include intellectual property law and telecommunications, media and technology law.

The first prize winner of the competition shall get an opportunity to intern with Saraf and Partners, a full service top Indian firm. Additionally, the second and third prize winners shall get an opportunity to intern at Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition. The top 5 participants shall also be awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Delhi Chapter of the IDIA Charitable Trust.

Kindly note that articles may be written on the following sub-themes, which are not exhaustive in nature:

  1. IP and Artificial Intelligence in India

  2. IP and Big Data Protection in India

  3. IP and Competition Law in India

  4. IP and COVID 19- Innovation and Access Dimension in India

  5. IP in India’s FTAs/IIAs

Interested Participants can register for the competition from 25 April 2022 to 22 May 2022.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES

  • Registration: 25 April 2022- 22 May 2022

  • Submission: 29 May 2022 [In case of conflict with academic schedule of one's university, dates can be extended]

  • Declaration of Results: June 2022
