The Centre for Maritime Environmental Law, Gujarat Maritime University and Sea and Beyond are organizing an Academy on 50 Years of International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) from 11th to 19th March, 2024
Day by day, as regulations tighten and zero tolerance for environmental damage becomes more prevalent, along with the need for companies to fully comply with the MARPOL Convention, the Centre for Maritime Environmental Law at GMU is providing this academy to impart understanding about the standards, duties, and consequences of non-compliance with the MARPOL Convention.
The training is designed to spread awareness among corporate executives, senior officers, designated persons ashore, superintendents, auditors, regulators, vessel inspectors, and students. The Academy on 50 Years of MARPOL is scheduled to be organized virtually from the 11th to the 19th of March, 2024.
The Academy has been organized to commemorate 50 years of MARPOL. It aims to expand knowledge and provide essential information on the principles of MARPOL by showcasing its enforcement, implementation, and evolution over the last 50 years, along with its impact on member states.
The academy will offer targeted training in environmental awareness and MARPOL compliance. It will feature lectures delivered by experts in safety management, auditing, flag state control, and port state control in an engaging, interactive style. The academy is designed for anyone interested in understanding the current issues related to climate change in the shipping sector.
