Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru has emerged as the winners at the Chandigarh University, International Virtual Moot Court Competition, 2021 organized by the University Institute of Legal Studies, from 2nd of September 2021 to 4th of September 2021.
26 teams from across the world participated in this competition. The team from Christ University comprising of Niranjan Kumar, Smrithi Ramakrishnan and Patel Sharan Goud secured the position of Winner in addition to the best Memorial Award.
Prize: Winner (55,000/-) and Best Memorial (15,000).
The team from NLU Jodhpur comprising of Abhishek Choudhary, Aditya Shekhar and Aditya Anand secured the position of Runner-up.
Prize: Runner up (35,000/-).
Purnima from Guru Nanak Dev University, Gurdasspur was declared the Best Speaker.
Prize: Best Speaker (15,000).
The Competition was inaugurated by International Dignitaries Aaron Abishai Andrew (Vice President, MMU SIG Malaysia) and Suma Ilyas (Founder and President of Maldives Moot court Society). Director of UILS Prof. Dr. O.P. Midha delivered the vote of thanks to both dignitaries.
The organising team attempted to maintain the balance of academic, research skills and practical knowledge by constituting a panel of two judges comprising of one eminent academician and one profound litigator. Semi-Final rounds were adjudged by Mr. Saunak Rajguru (Associate at JSA) sharing the bench with Dr. Neelam Batra and Adv. Dayjeesh Bhatti along with Mr. Salva Singh Raghuvanshi (Senior Legal officer at Oil India Ltd.).
Final Rounds was adjudged by an eminent panel comprising of retired judges of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Justice Rajive Bhalla and Hon’ble Justice SS Saron.
Director of UILS Prof. Dr. O.P. Midha delivered vote of thanks to both Hon’ble Judges for sparing their valuable time and enlightening the students.
Valedictory session was graced by Judge from Sri Lanka Hon’ble Justice Ahsan Marikar by encouraging the students to moot and explaining the importance of mooting in the legal profession. Pro-Chancellor of Chandigarh University Prof. Dr. R.S. Bawa delivered vote of thanks on behalf of Chandigarh University to Hon’ble Judge.
Finally, Dr. Kusum Pal, the convener of this international event spoke about the event in its entirety and delivered a vote of thanks to all participants and organizing team.
