Bar & Bench

Over the last three years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students provide us with information on campus events and activities, as well as share legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Ajit Kumar, a fourth-year law student at the Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law?

Initially, after my senior secondary, I intended to study engineering but destiny had some other plans for me. At the same time, I was growing up in a society where people did not take Law very seriously and belonging to the same society, I had to really understand the reason behind it and find an appropriate solution. Eventually, this intrigued me into pursuing a career in Law. Moreover, I was always persuasive and wanted to connect with more people around me. So, I choose to do Law, where I could use the skills that I already possessed, and of course, could impart many more.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

Bar & Bench is a platform that is accessed by every person associated with the legal profession, specifically law students. I would not hesitate to say that Bar & Bench has become more like part of a meal nowadays. Choosing the role of Campus Ambassador was a privilege for me as it gives me an opportunity to be able to communicate with the whole legal community regarding events happening in my college. I also think working as a Campus Ambassador will help me interact with several like-minded people. Moreover, I always had an inclination towards legal journalism, so why not begin my journey with the platform which is one of the leaders in this field?

What are your plans after completing law?

My current future plan is to work with a boutique Dispute Resolution Law Firm after I graduate. Although, I know it is not easy but I would like to give it a shot. With that experience, I wish to pursue my master's in International Commercial Law with a specialization in Arbitration.
