Call for Researchers: Project ADR - "The Better Alternative for Environmental Law"

The aim is to help create a platform that can help guide people on the various methods they can employ to resolve their issues, in case they cannot afford to approach the NGT.

The Final Stand (TFS) and Team ThinkOcean at O.P. Jindal Global University, a climate change mitigation initiative is looking for research volunteers for its initiative, 'PROJECT ADR - The Better Alternative for Environmental Law’.

The Final Stand (TFS) and Team ThinkOcean at O.P. Jindal Global University. The Final Stand is a student-run climate change advocacy, law, and policy initiative at the University under the mentorship of Justice Michael D. Wilson of the Hawaii Supreme Court. They are primarily focused on increasing climate change literacy and drafting policy and legislation to aid our fight against the biggest threat to our collective existence.

Under the Final Stand, the ThinkOcean team is an autonomous project-based vertical, which is affiliated with the global organization 'ThinkOcean' consisting of networks across the world. ThinkOcean aims to address oceanic and land-based environmental issues through increasing student awareness and participation in environment-related projects. It is a network of chapters across educational institutions and region-based councils and facilitates the decentralization required to effectively address such concerns.

ABOUT PROJECT

Environmental litigation is a costly and tiresome project that is not accessible to everyone. We want to explore alternatives that can bring environmental justice to people who cannot afford to approach the NGT for their problems because they do not have the time, or money, or knowledge to do it. With this project, We shall explore how ADR methods can be used not just to resolve environmental disputes but also to create and establish frameworks for protecting the environment.

The aim is to help create a platform that can help guide people on the various methods they can employ to resolve their issues, in case they cannot afford to approach the NGT. If not a platform, a guide that can be communicated to people. Additionally, the goal is to make companies or other entities aware of the various kinds of negotiations they can involve themselves in, to help create frameworks to protect the environment.

POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The project would mostly be research-based and would involve a lot of written work - papers, guides, etc. Social media could also be a platform that can be used to create more awareness of what we work on. The work of the researchers shall include:

1. Aid in research for the project - the researchers shall be the backbone of this project.

2. Creative brainstorming with the entire team, to come up with new ideas and solutions.

3. Interest and knowledge in ADR and Environmental law, along with a passion for environmentalism is crucial.

4. Should be willing to work for at least 7-8 hours a week.

TERMS OF THE POSITION

The application form for the positions requires certain details, where due consideration shall be given to the candidature of the student in the selection process. The selected applicants shall be involved in the project as per the designated role as volunteers, for the required term. They will thus be a vital part of the ThinkOcean at O.P. Jindal Global University. However, such does not imply or guarantee any membership with the Final Stand, which is only open to students from the university. Unless explicitly mentioned, there is no remuneration provided. Upon the completion of the term and to the satisfaction of the leadership, a letter of acknowledgement shall be provided.

Most importantly, the selected candidates are expected to proactive and consistent. Expressing creativity and taking initiative are highly valued and encouraged.

ELIGIBILITY

Anyone who is pursuing, or has completed, any law/legal undergraduate degree in any field are welcome to apply.
