Amarchand litigation head Ciccu Mukhopadhaya designated as Senior Counsel

Amarchand Mangaldas Senior Partner and Litigation Head Ciccu Mukhopadhaya has been designated as Senior Counsel by the Orissa High Court. Ciccu will soon leave the firm to practice as a Senior Counsel..Speaking to Bar & Bench Ciccu said, “I have been appearing in Orissa High Court since 1992. I do a lot of mining matters and I have been quite regular there”..Ciccu said that his focus in the future would ultimately be the Supreme Court and of course arbitration..Ciccu added, “It is going to be completely different now. I will be dependent on lawyers briefing me and not acting for clients directly. It is going to be a different world and a better world because I can concentrate more on legal arguments. It is going to be a new beginning for me”..Ciccu has enormous experience in corporate commercial law, litigation and arbitration..Amarchand Mangaldas Managing Partner Shardul Shroff said, “We are very proud that a partner of the firm has been recognised and is designated as a Senior Counsel by the court. We supported this process as it was in the pipeline for a few months”..Shroff added, “We will fully support him as a preferred arguing counsel for our clients”. He further said, “The process of his retirement from the partnership firm will be initiated in due course. It is not a routine resignation process”..Ciccu did his Masters from Temple University, Philadelphia in 1986 and started practicing with Senior Counsel and noted jurist Dr. L.M. Singhvi. In 1990, he worked as a Partner in Juris Consultus and later in 1995 started his own firm Mukhopadhaya & Co. In 2002, Ciccu moved to Amarchand..Shroff told Bar & Bench that Ritu Bhalla another partner at the firm, has already been designated as the head of the litigation and dispute resolution practise at Delhi, when she became an equity partner with the firm in October. She has been a litigator with over 20 years standing at the firm.
