Advocate General for Tamil Nadu, R Muthukumaraswamy has tendered his resignation from the post, citing ill health. A letter to this effect has reached the Chief Secretary to the State government today..Speaking to Bar & Bench, both Muthukumaraswamy, as well as President of the Madras Bar Association, Senior Advocate Vijay Narayan confirmed this news..Muthukumaraswamy had served as the chief law officer for the state for a little over a year..He completed his law from Madras Law College and enrolled as an advocate in 1973. Thereafter, he was attached to the office of Senior Advocate and former Tamil Nadu Advocate General R Krishnamoorthy..He served as government pleader for the Tamil Nadu government from 1994 to 1996. He was also the senior standing counsel for the Central government between 1998-1999..In 2001, he became a designated senior counsel for the Madras High Court and thereafter went on to serve as additional advocate general till 2006. He served as President of the Madras Bar Association for two years, from 2012-2014..He took over the reins as Advocate General for the state on August 26, 2016 following the resignation of AL Somayaji from the post..Until now, there is no official communication as regards the next appointee for the post.
