Mired in various litigation in the Delhi High Court, popular taxi aggregators Uber and Ola have found themselves in the courts once again..Today, a private individual moved an application stating that no sooner had the second phase of Odd-Even Scheme kicked in, that these companies had begun over-charging customers and were applying ‘surge’ rates in an arbitrary fashion..The application, that was filed along with a plethora of cases pertaining to the diesel ban controversy plaguing these companies for the past year, saw Justice JR Midha issue notice to the Delhi Government. Justice Midha said that if the common people were being inconvenienced, then the government could not ‘wash its hands’ off the issue..The petitioner also informed the Court that sensing fewer number of private vehicles on the road due to the Scheme in place, Ola & Uber were charging absurd rates..“Some cab players are even charging up to Rs.250 per kilometer and the government is doing nothing about it.”.While the Court has directed the Government to file its reply before the next date of hearing on April 25, the discontent over the issue seemed to have reached the Chief Minister..CM Arvind Kejriwal issued a strong reprimand later in the day to the companies and threatened to impound their vehicles if the fare charged was more than the prescribed limit by the government..The latest update on the episode is that Uber Delhi has decided to suspend its surge pricing “with immediate effect”.
