The Supreme Court today seemed to prima facie concur with the suggestion made by Medical Council of India that entrance exams conducted by different States could be considered for admission to government colleges this year..However, all other colleges would be covered by NEET..The suggestion was put forth by Senior Advocate Vikas Singh appearing for the MCI. He also suggested that only those students who had not appeared for phase 1 of NEET should be allowed to sit for phase 2..Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, however, sought more time to convey the Centre’s stance..The Court therefore, adjourned the case for May 9..Before rising, Justice Dave remarked that NEET will be held and, subject to Centre’s opinion, will be used for admission to all colleges except government colleges for which respective entrance exams could be considered.
