Justice Gogoi buries the hatchet, accepts Katju J’s “unconditional apology”

In a rather peaceful end to an unfortunate series of events, the Apex Court today chose to set aside its differences with former judge Justice Markandey Katju.

A Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and UU Lalit accepted the unconditional apology tendered by Justice Katju for what they had viewed as personal attacks against several judges of the Supreme Court.

Represented by Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan, Katju J. assured the Court that the offensive post had since been deleted from his Facebook page, and that he had “utmost respect” for the judges of the Court, as well as the judicial system.

The Bench seemed to be in a magnanimous mood, and without any further probing or questioning, instantly dictated an order directing that the matter be put an end to.

As readers will recall, the apex Court had requested Justice Katju to assist them in deciphering where they had erred in deciding the controversial murder case of Kerala native Soumya. The scene in the court room panned out quite differently, with the bench issuing a rather curt contempt notice to the former Supreme Court judge.
