The central government today urged the Supreme Court not to deal with the issue relating to judicial appointments on the judicial side..Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the Court today that the Centre will co-operative in filling up vacancies in the higher judiciary and that the matter should be dealt with on the administrative side. He asked the Court to dispose of the cases praying for speeding up appointment of judges to High Courts..A Bench of Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice NV Ramana proceeded to adjourn the case, while remarking that disposing of the case might not be possible at this stage without passing an order..The matter had attracted great media and public scrutiny when the earlier Bench, presided by Chief Justice TS Thakur, had heard the case and pulled up the central government on numerous occasions..The earlier Bench had cautioned the central government that it would summon the Secretary from Prime Minister’s office and also threatened to withdraw judicial work from two High Court judges – Justice Valmiki Mehta of Delhi High Court and Justice MR Shah of Gujarat High Court.
