Fox Star Studios today withdrew the appeal filed in the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court decision on its film Jolly LLB 2..Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi who appeared for Fox told a Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Ashok Bhushan that it will release the movie with the deletion of scenes recommended by the Committee appointed by the Bombay High Court..The Court allowed Fox to withdraw the appeal. The Court also acceded to Fox’s request to keep the question of law open..The case is a result of a petition filed by Ajaykumar Waghmare in the Bombay High Court. Waghmare had moved the High Court alleging that scenes in the movie depict the Judiciary and the legal professional in bad light..He had contended that he had watched the promos and trailers of the movie and it contained scenes depicting lawyers playing cards on court premises and a judge hiding under the dais to evade objects being hurled in the court..He had prayed that the word ‘LLB’ be dropped from the title of the movie and the scenes depicting the profession in bad light be deleted..The High Court had observed that though above scenes prima facie indicated disrespect and disregard to the Court, the scenes should be examined in the proper perspective and context before reaching any conclusion..The Court had therefore, constituted a three member committee comprising advocates VJ Dixit and RN Dhord, along with medical officer Dr. PR Kanade to watch Jolly LLB 2 on February 1 and submit a report to the High Court..The Committee, in its report, had objected to certain scenes and dialogues. The movie makers had agreed to release the film after removing the objectionable scenes and the Bombay High Court had ordered accordingly yesterday..Advocate Panditrao S Anerao appeared for the petitioner in Bombay High Court..Image taken from here.
