Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani today cross-examined Arun Jaitley in a civil defamation case filed by the Finance Minister against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Jaitley appeared before the jam-packed courtroom of Delhi High Court Registrar Amit Kumar for the cross-examination, which lasted for over four hours and is expected to continue tomorrow at 11.30 am.

In 2015, Kejriwal and some other AAP leaders had alleged administrative irregularities and mishandling of finances of DDCA by Jaitley during his tenure as President of the cricket body. The Union Finance Minister denied all the allegations made against him and filed civil and criminal defamation cases against Kejriwal and the other leaders.

During the question-answer session, Jethmalani, who is representing Kejriwal, posed fifty-two questions to Jaitley, who was represented by Senior Advocate Prathiba M Singh.

Interestingly, eleven questions out of the fifty-two were disallowed by the Court. The Registrar did not entertain any questions that were irrelevant to the outcome of the case, or that were already a matter of record and any questions which relied on Jaitley’s personal opinion.

One of the questions posed by Jethmalani was rejected by the Registrar on the ground that,

“The cross-examination is not to check the general knowledge or the knowledge of English of the witness.”
