GLC-grad Abhinav Bhushan is first Indian ICC Director to bolster arbitration in South Asia

The International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has appointed former ICC Deputy Counsel Abhinav Bhushan as Regional Director for South Asia..A graduate of the Government Law College, Mumbai, Bhushan started his career with Mulla & Mulla after which he pursued his LL. M. from Columbia Law School and focused on international arbitration. In 2012, he joined the International Court of Arbitration (ICA) in Paris, as the Court’s first Indian Deputy Counsel..Bhushan will be based in ICC Asia’s offices in Singapore and will take over from the current regional director, Sylvia Tee..“A core priority will be focusing on bringing awareness to the benefits of ICC arbitration and ADR services in India, including the ICC’s unparalleled attention to arbitral procedure which strengthens the quality and enforceability of its awards – in the end, giving the parties a timely, cost effective and secure method to resolve their business disputes”, according to Bhushan..Bhushan’s appointment is in line with the ICA’s aim to boost its presence in South Asia, a decision that the ICA’s President, Alexis Mourre had referred to recently..In an interview with Bar & Bench Mourre had said,.“Asia is of course the region where arbitration has been growing the most, and it is also the region where the competition is the fiercest.
