Dr. Lekshmi Nair barred from role in exams, criminal case against KLA Principal

Even as the students of Kerala Law Academy’s Law College demand the ouster of Dr. Lekshmi Nair, the University of Kerala has debarred the Principal from having a say in the examination process for five years..The decision was taken in a special meeting of the University’s syndicate held on Saturday. The syndicate reportedly upheld the findings of a sub-committee that investigated the grievances raised by the students..As reported earlier, among the allegations levelled against Dr. Nair is the arbitrary and unfair awarding of internal marks to students. She also allegedly granted favourable internal marks and attendance to a student. Another grievance was the supposedly “inappropriate” positioning of CCTV cameras near the girls hostel bathrooms..After finding truth in these allegations, the syndicate decided that Dr. Nair will not play any role in the awarding of internal marks and the conduct of the law college’s examinations..Dr. Nair, on her part, vehemently denies these allegations. A couple of weeks back, she was quoted as saying,.“The allegations are completely false. The protests are being carried out by students who are not serious about studies..In any college, if the students have a problem, the first step is to approach the administration. But they have not done that. They starting protesting themselves without even telling the college about their grievances..…They are demanding my resignation, but how can that happen? How many times have students asked the Principal to resign? If I do, I will be setting a bad trend.”.In related news, a criminal case has been registered against Dr. Nair under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case was filed against the Principal for allegedly harassing a student belonging to scheduled caste by addressing him by caste.
