Debate continues on status of Bar Councils under the RTI Act

The debate regarding the status of Bar Councils under the RTI Act continues, with the Bar Council of India (BCI) issuing a circular to all State Bar Councils clarifying that SBCs are not “public authorities” under the Act and cannot be subject to its provisions. The Bar Council reasons that it is not a government-funded organization, and thus cannot be called a “public authority”.
