TNNLS missing from CLAT counseling list; Vice Chancellor Murugavel to meet GNLU’s Bimal Patel today

In spite of the “provisional inclusion” status of the Tamil Nadu National Law School in this year’s CLAT counseling process, applicants were unable to choose TNNLS as an option in the recently concluded counseling process. The first batch of online counseling concluded the past Saturday, with potential TNNLS students unsure of how they would gain admission..On April 28 this year, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had directed the CLAT Secretariat to “provisionally” include TNNLS in the list of CLAT law schools, an order that organizing University, GNLU had complied with. Subsequently, the TNNLS website also mentioned that the mode of admission would be through the CLAT online counseling alone..Following the re-release of CLAT results (the initial results were withheld due to technical errors), around 2,500 applicants were asked to fill in their preference list and undergo the first round of online counseling. However, those who wanted to opt for TNNLS simply did not have the option to do so with the law school absent from the list of options..With the last date for completing the admission formalities being June 15, those who had decided to opt for TNNLS are unsure of what the next step ought to be. And the lack of a clear response from both TNNLS and GNLU is certainly not helping matters..Says KSP Vendan, whose daughter had sought to go to TNNLS, “We have sent over 50 e-mails to GNLU, and to the participating law colleges but are yet to get any response whatsoever. We had hoped that the second order of the Madurai Bench would be complied with.” .There may still be hope though with TNNLS’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Murugavel expected to meet GNLU’s Dr. Bimal Patel today to resolve the issue. At the time of going to press, Dr. Patel was not available for comment.
