Bar & Bench has compiled the comments of Justice L. Narasimha Reddy, who is hearing the petitions on the Telangana agitations. The AP police are under fire by the Judge for using excessive force..When the Andhra Pradesh police dealt with the Telangana agitations with excess amounts of force, it was only a matter of time before somebody took legal action. The Writ Petitions filed by ABN Andhrajyoti News Network reporter and an Osmania University student, who have challenged the use of force and entry of police into the OU campus respectively are two of the several petitions..Justice L. Narasimha Reddy had issued a temporary injunction barring the police from erecting barriers within the campus and entering the University. The Division Bench of the High Court also dismissed Governments application in the appeal and held that the barricades were unnecessary..Here are some of the comments of Justice L. Narasimha Reddy, the single judge hearing the writ petitions against police brutality in Osmania University made observations that did not put the Andhra police in good light. The Judge observed that the police were treating Telangana as Pakistan and the OU campus as the Wagah Border. Some of his observations are below:.On Contempt:.“The DGP is busy in fighting his own litigation. He is in need of a court order to continue in the post, but he does not respect an order from the same court. Let Amnesty International step in. This court had ordered the withdrawal of the forces and removal of the barricades on the OU campus. But when I passed by OU this morning, the barricades were still there.”.On Bihar:.“We do not find such kind of a situation in any other part of the country. Even in Bihar, the police obey some agency. It’s all the more unfortunate that such things are happening at a time when a renowned former police officer is the governor of the state. His presence should act as a deterrent on the police. But the reverse is happening.”.On Anjaneyulu:.“Why this hungama? Was there any looting, arson or murder? Even girl students were ill treated. Who is this P.S.R. Anjaneyulu, the Joint Commissioner of Police, who orders mayhem first and then apologises to the media at the end of the day. He must not enter the campus.”.On General Dyer:.“But there is none here to question the lawlessness among our police. There are several Dyers here and your government is not competent enough to control them.”.Additional Advocate General A. Satya Prasad, is appearing for the Government, and evidently is having a tough time defending the state’s actions.
