In a surprising development, the Supreme Court on Tuesday cancelled the bail of chief perpetrator of the Satyam scandal Ramalinga Raju (Raju) and five others including his brother, Rama Raju..In a surprising development, the Supreme Court on Tuesday cancelled the bail of chief perpetrator of the Satyam scandal Ramalinga Raju (Raju) and five others including his brother, Rama Raju. In an order given by a Division Bench comprising of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Deepak Verma, the Court said that it is normally slow in cancelling a bail once it is granted, but the extraordinary facts and circumstances of the case has prompted them to take this decision..Raju had spent more than 17 months in custody, had been granted bail by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in August of this year. The High Court had released Raju on the condition of his poor health and had asked him to present himself before the local magistrate on a daily basis. The Court had instructed him to co-operate in the investigations..The Supreme Court Bench stating that the case dealt with the “biggest financial scam in the corporate history of India” refrained from passing a detailed order on the cancellation of the bail for the reason that it did not want any of its comments to be interpreted against the accused during their trial..The Court also said that if the trial is not completed by July 31, 2011 then the accused have the liberty of approaching the Andhra Pradesh High Court for their bail application..The Raju brothers were represented by a battery of counsels which included Senior Counsel Mukul Rohatgi, who was also responsible in gaining the bail of PwC Auditor, Srinivas Talluri. Other counsels in the bail applications of Raju and his brother include Senior Counsels Dushyant Dave, Ashok Desai along with the Rajus’ long standing legal counsel Bharat Kumar.
