The National University of Juridical Sciences, (NUJS) Kolkata has launched a special ‘Weekend Lecture Series’, inviting top academics and practitioners to supplement academic discussions in classrooms..The first lecture was delivered by Zia Mody, Managing Partner of AZB & Partners, on pressing issues in corporate governance in India, regulatory hurdles to foreign investment, M&As and the role of corporate lawyers today in facilitating business transactions..“I hope to see leading academics and practitioners participate in this endeavour and contribute to nurturing young talent. The series becomes a forum for our students to gain an insight into critical issues of national relevance and help them in formulating reasoned opinions,” said Prof. P Ishwara Bhat, Vice Chancellor, NUJS..The next lecture in the series will be delivered by Prof. N R Madhava Menon on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Menon, who founded NLSIU, Bangalore (and later NUJS, Kolkata) is widely considered as the father of Indian national law schools. The emergence of national law schools has transformed how a lawyer’s role is conceived in society. Alumni of national law universities have done extremely well in litigation, risen to top positions in law firms, companies and international policy-making organizations.
