The Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) has collaborated with the Indiana University and Michigan Law School recently. Last month, they joined hands with Ivy League Yale University..JGLS was established in 2009 to promote global education and is one of the few law schools in India that accepts students through the LSAT (Law School Admission Test)..Speaking to Bar & Bench, Professor and Vice Chancellor of Jindal Global University and Dean of JGLS, C. Raj Kumar said, “The MoU between Indiana University and O.P. Jindal Global University promotes global education along three inter-related disciplines, law, business and international affairs. This collaboration is a first of its kind, which will have profound impact on faculty research, student experiences and research collaborations”..Professor Kumar added, “The MoU between Michigan Law School and Jindal Global Law School jointly establishes a global corporate and financial law centre besides creating institutional partnerships having rich and diverse benefits for the faculty and students of both law schools”..The Indiana University (IU’s) President Michael A. McRobbie announced the formation of collaboration with JGU which will establish, maintain and enhance interaction between JGU and three of IU’s professional schools: the Maurer School of Law, the Kelley School of Business, and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, along with the IU Center on Philanthropy..Through a press release Michael said, “As the world’s largest democracy, India presents enormous opportunities for our professional school students to prepare for leadership roles in today’s global economy. With commitment to research excellence, international recruitment of faculty, and rigorous admissions standards, we believe JGU offers an ideal environment for graduate study”..The collaboration will comprise of at the Maurer School of Law, non-degree student exchanges between the Law School and JGLS; internships for Maurer School of Law students in India and JGLS students in the U.S.; research, academic collaboration, and conference opportunities; and recruitment into the Maurer School’s international LLM program..At the Kelley School of Business, collaboration with the Jindal Global Business School on its new Master’s in Business and Law degree, a joint executive education program and a possible collaborative undergraduate initiative. At the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, a summer program at IU for master’s degree students at the Jindal School of International Affairs and a non-credit executive program for Indian professionals on the Bloomington campus..Professor Jayanth Krishnan, who heads the Maurer School of Law’s India Law Program added, “To my knowledge, this is the first time that an Indian and a U.S. university have entered into such a wide-ranging collaboration across several professional disciplines. The partnership is especially timely given the Indian government’s current attention to educational collaboration with U.S. institutions and President Obama’s visit to Delhi in early November”..As JGLS’s first step toward developing a strong partnership, the law school has appointed Michigan’s (Michigan Law School) Prof. Khanna, a distinguished Visiting Professor for 2010-2011. Prof. Khanna, a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Editor of India Law Abstracts and the White Collar Crime Abstracts on the Social Science Research Network, will travel to India in January and spend a semester teaching courses and pursuing research..This certainly gives an edge to JGLS in attracting students, by blending Yale, Indiana and Michigan law schools in their legal curriculum.
