The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has written a letter to the Secretary General of the Supreme Court to take steps to ease congestion inside the Supreme Court..As a long term measure, it has requested,.“to explore the possibility of linking the corridors of the front court rooms with the corridors of back court rooms, by creating two external walkways next to the court room No.5 and court room No.4.”.The letter written by SCBA Secretary Aishwarya Bhati points out that the problem, “which becomes more acute on Mondays, Fridays and even Tuesdays, can turn into a potential disaster during any emergency.”.Apart from the long term solution, the letter also makes the suggestion to keep the court rooms which are not in session open so that “members can wait in the empty courtrooms for their matters to reach while keeping a check on their display board.”.The bottleneck in front of court room 4 also finds a mention in the letter with a request being made,.“to explore the possibility of removal of partition and gate next to the court No.4, which leads to the passage which goes to the court rooms at the back. This narrow place becomes a bottleneck restricting easy passage for the members of the Bar.”.The SCBA has also issued a circular to its members containing a series of directions to be followed to help mitigate the problem. The directions include not to “crowd up the front portion of the court rooms” or “stand in the middle of the corridors”..It has also requested the, .“members to consider whether it will be necessary for us to have some self restraint so that only those members whose matters are about to reach for hearing, should be inside the court room, while rest of us can wait outside for our turn.”.The SCBA is also invloved in a litigation pertaining to parking problem in the Supreme Court and has recommended that the space outside Pragati Maidan be allotted to Supreme Court lawyers for parking their vehicles. The matter is pending before the Supreme Court.
