Indian Express quoting K. Sudhakaran a MP from northern Kannur said, “A Supreme Court judge had pocketed Rs. 36 lakh ($80,000) to lift a Kerala High Court ban on 21 bar licences in the State”. Sudhakaran added that though he did not have any proof to back his allegation, he was ready to disclose the name of the judge and other details in a court if asked to do so..Hindustan Times quoting Sudhakaran said, “I was witness to an incident where a Supreme Court judge accepted Rs. 21 lakh bribe from bar owners to revoke a Kerala High Court verdict which cancelled bar licences of 21 owners. I was in the Supreme Court to argue a case, when my friend (a lawyer) told me about a particular judge, I couldn’t believe it. Then he asked me to join his team to witness the whole incident. Seeing was believing. The same judge later asked for Rs. 15 lakh more through a messenger”..Bribery is the root cause of corruption. Previously the Cash-in-bag scam led the then Chief Justice of India, Justice K.G. Balakrishnan to conduct inquiries into the conduct of High Court judges. Recently a Bar Council of India Member was also arrested in a bribery case.
