Calcutta City Civil Court to share concurrent pecuniary jurisdiction with High Court; Litigants given freedom to choose forum

The West Bengal Assembly recently passed the City Civil Court (Amendment) Bill of 2013 granting concurrent pecuniary jurisdiction to the City Civil Court and the High Court. The amendment now allows litigants to approach either forum for civil matters valued between Rs. 10 lakhs and 1 crore.
