Macquarie SBI Infrastructure Fund (MSIF) has acquired an 11 percent stake in Viom Networks, (Viom Networks was previously known as Wireless TT Info Services) for Rs. 1,420 crore ($316 million).
AZB Mumbai acted as the legal adviser for Tata Teleservices, led by Partner Vaishali Sharma along with Senior Associate Niren Patel.
Viom Networks was formed after the merger between the tower companies of Tata Teleservices and Quippo in January 2009.
Amarchand & Mangaldas' Mumbai Partner Ashwath Rau, advised Macquaire SBI Infrastructure Fund.
Macquarie SBI Infrastructure Management Private Limited is a joint venture between Macquarie Capital, the State Bank of India (SBI) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Viom is an independent telecom infrastructure company with over 37,000 towers and with over 80,000 tenants. Viom plans to set up more an 20,000 towers in the next two years and is even considering IPO plans.
Several telecom tower operators have merged in India recently, with the largest being Indus Towers, a joint venture between Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular.
