Indus Law advises SONG to invest in an Eye care hospital

SONG Investment Advisors is investing in Gurgaon based Eye Q, a super speciality eye-care hospital. Eye Q operates a chain of eight eye-care hospitals across Haryana, Delhi, Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh and plans to expand its network across 20 towns in the next two years.

SONG is a Rs. 76 crore ($17 million) early stage investment fund, which is backed by George Soros, Omidyar Networks and Google.

SONG was advised by the Delhi and Bangalore office Indus Law with Partners Avimukt Dar (Delhi) and Suneeth Katarki (Bangalore) along with Senior Associate Prachi B. Mehra and Associate Rashi Khadria.

Partner Avimukt Dar speaking with Bar & Bench said, “This transaction represents our firm’s commitment to assisting social investment funds such as SONG in key growth areas such as healthcare.”

Eye Q did not use services of a law firm. Early June, private equity major Warburg Pincus announced an investment of Rs. 395 crore in Metropolis Healthcare Limited to make it one of the largest PE deals in the healthcare sector.

Venture Intelligence reports that since April 2010 nearly Rs. 864 crore ($192 million) worth of investements have been allocated to the health care sector Much of this activity is in response to the growing demand for healthcare facilities across the country.
