Sequoia has invested Rs. 70 crore ($15 million) in a Hyderabad based biopharmaceutical company Celon Laboratories Limited (Celon). Sequoia thus acquires 33 percent of the share capital of Celon.
AZB & Partners, Delhi represented Sequioa Capital with a team led by Partner Gautam Saha along with Senior Associate Sachin Mehta and Associates Dushyant Bagga and Sumati Dwivedi.
Celon was advised by FoxMandal Little, Hyderabad Partner Purnima Kamble.
Celon is engaged in the business of manufacturing, marketing and distributing pharmaceutical products or ingredients and other ancillary products in India and abroad.
The Deal Curry reports the funds will be used by Celon to expand its manufacturing infrastructure and strengthen its marketing activities. Sandeep Singhal, Managing Director of Sequoia Capital will join the board of Celon Labs.
Sequoia Capital has invested in more than 50 Indian companies including the recent investment in Micromax, Dr Lal Pathlabs, SKS Microfinance and Anti-Virus Quick Heal.
