The upcoming trial of Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad, who is the main accused in the May 1, 2010 failed Times Square bombing plot, has the makings of a blockbuster movie. Leading the prosecution against Shahzad is Indian-American US Federal Attorney, Preet Bharara.

Shahzad who is accused on five counts including using a weapon for mass destruction is a naturalised American citizen, was apprehended by the US Customs and Border Protection officers at the John F. Kennedy airport as he tried to flee the country.

Preet Bharara, who was appointed as a Federal Attorney by American President Barack Obama in May of last year is a Harvard and Columbia educated lawyer who has been widely appreciated for his professionalism and legal skills since being appointed as the head of the US Attorney office of the Southern District of New York.

Bharara leads a team of over 200 lawyers who are currently involved in the prosecution of high profile cases that include the prosecution of billion dollar Ponzi scheme perpetrator Bernie Madoff and 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Bharara is handling the prosecution of the Sri Lankan billionaire and founder of Galleon Group, Raj Rajaratnam and Indian Americans Anil Kumar and Rajiv Goel in one of the biggest insider-trading scams to hit the American economy as well as the recent Securities Exchange Commission inquiry of Goldman Sachs.
