Justice Chelameswar is new CJ of Kerala HC

Justice Jasti Chelameswar, the incumbent Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court has been transferred to the Kerala High Court. Justice Chelameswar is expected to take over from the present acting Chief Justice, P.R. Raman on March 17.

Justice Chelameswar studied physics in the prestigious Loyala College, Chennai. He switched streams in 1973 when he enrolled to study law from Andhra University in Vishakapatnam. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 1995 and was appointed as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in ‘97. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in 2007.

Prior to his stint as an Additional Advocate General for Andhra Pradesh between 1995 and 1997, he was the standing counsel for the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta and also served as a Government pleader for the Department of Home Affairs.
