With the elevation of two new judges to the Supreme Court, the High Courts are seeing a lot of reshuffling, elevations and transfers amongst the judges. Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya has assumed charge as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. Justice Mukhopadhaya has previously presided over the High Courts at Patna, Jharkhand and Madras.
Justice Kurian Joseph, previously the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. He was appointed as a judge of the Kerala High Court in 2000.
Justice Dipak Misra is moving from the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, where he has been serving as a permanent judge since 1997, to assume charge as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. Justice Mohit S. Shah is being transferred from the Gujarat High Court and elevated to the post of Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, relieving Acting Chief Justice B. Bhattacharya. Chief Justice Anil Ramesh Dave of the Andhra Pradesh High Court will now preside over the Bombay High Court after Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar was elevated to the Supreme Court.
