Additional Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran on Wednesday asserted in the Supreme Court that any arrangement between the Ambani brothers for the supply of gas from the K G Basin has to be approved by it in national interest.

Additional Solicitor General Vivek Tankha added, "The MoU is a family arrangement while the Production Sharing Agreement is an arrangement for the country and the people's right has to be protected". The Bench however, remained unimpressed with the submissions and had Tankha yielding to their observation that his submissions were not a part of the record in the Bombay High Court.

Senior Counsel Ram Jethmalani, opening his arguments on RNRL's behalf stated that he was dissatisfied with any arrangement that involved the government. His proposal to implead the board of directors who had filed their affidavits was shot down with the Bench directing him to raise his objections via a counter-affidavit.

Meanwhile, a disgruntled Harish Salve [pictured] updated his status message on the social networking site 'Twitter' to: "Cant believe that judges of the supreme court have the kind of patience it takes to hear the Gas case the way it is being heard."
