As a result of the charges levelled against him, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice P.D. Dinakaran has been 'delinked' from elevation to the Supreme Court. CJI K.G. Balakrishnan at the All India conference of the Central Administrative Tribunal told media persons, "We have only asked that the names of four other judges should be processed for their appointment as judges of the Supreme Court," adding that the Supreme Court Collegium is yet to decide on the fate of Justice Dinakaran.

The Thiruvallur District Collector's report has accused the judge of encroaching upon 197 acres of public land in Kaverirajapuram village in Tamil Nadu, apart from owning about 500 acres. Besides encroachment charges, accusations that Justice Dinakaran had favoured a friend in a hearing in a court matter and several villagers filing complaints against him accusing him of removing the fence on the encroached property are adding to his cup of woes.

The Chief Justices of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat and Punjab and Haryana, alongside whom Justice Dinakaran was nominated, will soon be elevated.
