Law Minister Veerappa Moily has promised to table the much-delayed Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament's Winter session. The UPA government had originally promised, as part of its election mandate, to table the bill within 100 days of assuming power. The pressure from women's rights groups has been steadily increasing, with the Centre for Social Research spearheading a newly-launched campaign targeted at forcing the government to pass the Bill.
The Centre for Social Research intends, as part of its campaign, to send a letter a day from women in different parts of India to the President, Pratibha Patil, urging her to push the Bill. In addition, the NGO has also launched a campaign on social networking sites and blogs, as well as an online e-petition.
The petition may be accessed here.
