Prosecution counsel Meena Jagtap in the Kaya Elridge case has filed a case for professional misconduct before the Bar Council of Gujarat. Eldridge, a British national was allegedly molested by a plumber, Pragnesh Chhatrada. She had lodged a criminal complaint against him, which is being heard before a metropolitan magistrate in Ahmedabad. When the case went on trial, she was subject to humiliating questions by defense counsel, Sanjay Prajapati.
Chief Justice Radhakrishnan has sought a report from the chief magistrate as to how the concerned magistrate allowed the humiliation of Eldridge in his court. Jagtap had then filed a complaint before the Bar Council of Gujarat demanding Prajapati's suspension, which was rejected due to various irregularities, including the lack of a proper signature, or the address of the complainant. Jagtap has now refiled the complaint before the Bar Council under Section 35 of the Advocates Act, demanding disciplinary action against Prajapati.
