The HRD Ministry's attempts to improve legal education face opposition yet again, with the Law Minister now taking a stand against the HRD ministry's initiatives regarding legal education. The Law Minister, Veerappa Moily, told reporters at a conference that while he had no objection to the HRD Ministry's proposal to set up a Bachelor's degree in law, reforms in current legal education came within the purview of the Law Ministry. "[...] so far as setting professional standards are concerned, it is the Law Ministry which has to consider it," Moily said.

The Bar Council of India has also previously lashed out at the HRD ministry's plans to reform legal education in India, terming it part of a plot to render the BCI obsolete. The HRD ministry's attempts to implement an overarching body for higher studies in India, along the lines of the recommendations of the Yashpal Committee and the Knowledge Commission, have been canned by other ministries as well, with both the Health and Agriculture ministries expressing their objection to the idea.
