Abdul Rasheed (pictured left), an in-house counsel at ING Vysha has joined as Associate Partner at the Bangalore office of Majmudar & Co and Ravishankar Raghavan (pictured right) has joined the Mumbai office from Ernst & Young.

Abdul Rasheed, a graduate of the Calicut University, joins the Bangalore office after having served the Government as a Indian Corporate Law Service officer and as a counsel to the CBI. Speaking to Bar & Bench he said, “since i was representing the CBI, i could not join a law firm or start practice according to government rules as i may be conflicted. Therefore, i joined ING after which i got this opportunity to work with Majmudar”. He added, “although i have joined the General Corporate practice group, there are several unexplored areas of practice in India like the sanctions and compliance practice. I want to focus on those areas and bulk up the practice".

Indian Corporate Law Service is a central civil services cadre to create experts who would be involved in corporate law making and its enforcement in the country.

Majmudar has also bulked up its tax practice in Mumbai. Ravishankar Raghavan has joined the Mumbai office from Ernst & Young and prior to which he was in PwC. Raghavan will join as a Principal in the Tax group in Majmudar. He said “my aspiration is to build a large tax practice in the firm”.

Akil Hirani, Managing Partner of Majmudar said, “from an overall perspective the firm is on a high growth curve  and all our offices are adding capabilities”. "We will be beefing up our practice areas soon with lateral hires" added Hirani.

Regarding expanding the tax practice Hirani said, “We have Mr. Anil Asher, who is an Off Counsel to the firm and with Mr. Raghavan’s hire, we will be expanding that practice from its existing strength today”. “Tax has become fundamental and although the firm had an appended tax practice, we now are serious of building a standalone tax practice” he added.

Majmudar currently has nearly 50 lawyers and 7 Partners out of Mumbai and Bangalore. Majmudar also has tie-ups with their their ‘network offices’ in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and other cities which add another 50 lawyers to its strength.
