New low for Indian judiciary: Judges caught cheating in LL.M exam

Bar & Bench News Network

Aug 26, 2010

With an increasing number of reports on the corruption and unfair practices of the Indian judiciary, the latest news of 5 district judges and three advocates who were caught cheating in an LL.M exam has come at a new low.

Five district court judges from Andhra Pradesh who were appearing for their LL.M exams were caught cheating by an invigilator squad who had been tipped off earlier. The judges who were caught copying were Judges M. Krishnappa, K. Ajithsimha Rao, Vijayanand, Bapatla M. Srinivasa Chary and Hanumantha Rao, besides advocates P. Sheela Rani, K. Venkanna and V. Rajasekhar.

The judges were pursuing their higher studies in a distance education learning programme from Kakatiya University's School of Distance Learning and Continuing Examination. They were attempting the exam at the Arts and Science College in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh.

While one judge was found to be copying straight from a text book on the Legal and Constitutional History of India, others were found with torn slips of paper from various books. The answer scripts were immediately confiscated by the squad and the perpetrators have now been debarred from taking the remaining examinations.

Ironically, the passing of these exams would have made the judges eligible for promotion to the higher levels of judiciary in the State of Andhra Pradesh as well as the judiciaries of other States in the country.

After this shameful event which took place on Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh High Court headed by Chief Justice N. A. Kakru ordered for their suspension as well as disciplinary action against the erring judges. The High Court has also ordered the State authorities to launch a probe and to submit a report on this incident.

Your system of law evolved from over here in England: The country that boasts the mythical claim of having the fairest system of justice in the world.Believe me, people of India when I say that, this claim is pure tripe. There are thousands of us over here that know beyond doubt that the whole legal 'system' is corrupt, but there are only hundreds of us that are prepared to stand up and be counted on this issue.I am one of many and to view the proof of my own claims of lawyer/judicial corruption, please visit my website at Link Colin Peters". CAN SAY THIS ABOUT MUMBAI ANG NAGPUR TOO ...... REST CAN'T SAY.... ATLEAST IT IS THE LEAST CORRUPT WING OF INDIAN NATION AND AFTER 6TH PAY COMMISSION CORRUPTION HAS DECREASED TO 1 OUT OF 25 JUDGES IN INDIA". Ishaan, New Delhi
  • 16. "I DONT KNOW WHETHER TO LAUGH OR WEEP AT PEOPLE WHO STILL THINK THAT JUDICIARY IS NOT CORRUPT.THEY MAY BE RIGHT.JUDICIARY IS NOT CORRUPT....IT IS SHAMELESS.THE WORD CORRUPT FOR JUDICIARY IS OBSOLETE.I ALSO DOUBT THE INTELLECTUAL CAPACITY OF THOSE WHO SAY THAT ONLY 20% OR SO OF JUDGES ARE CORRUPT.THEN WHY THOSE 80% HONEST JUDGES DO NOT TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE CORRUPT MINORITY?RECENTLY THE PUNJAB & HARYANA HIGH COURT WAS UNDER FIRE FOR GIVING PROMOTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS TO UNDESERVING.SOME JUDGES WERE ACCUSED TO HAVE CLEARED EXAMS WITH THE HELP OF IMPERSONATORS.I ALSO DO NOT AGREE THAT CASES ARE DELAYED BECAUSE OF OVERBURDEN.RATHER THE ENTIRE BURDEN OF LITIGATION IS THE CREATION OF CORRUPT, INCAPABLE JUDGES WHO DELIBERATELY MISHANDLE CASES.I HAVE GOT DOCUMENTARY PROOFS AGAINST SEVERAL JUDGES FROM CHANDIGARH THAT THEY HAVE BEEN GRANTING ADJOURNMENTS FOR SEVERAL YEARS IN SIMPLE CASES WHERE CLEAR PROOFS AGAINST A PARTY EXIST.ALL THIS GOES ON WITH FULL KNOWLEDGE OF HC AND SC.".
