The Press Information Bureau has reported the President, along with consultation with the Chief Justice of India, Justice S.H. Kapadia have transferred Chief Justices of the Karnataka, Sikkim and Uttarakhand High Courts.
Justice P.D.D. Premkumar, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court has been transferred to the Sikkim High Court; Justice Barin Ghosh, Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court to the Uttarakhand High Court and Justice J.S. Khehar, Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court to the Karnataka High Court.
The transfer of Chief Justice P.D.D. Premkumar (in-famously known as Justice P.D. Dinakaran) is considered more like transferring a problem from the Karnataka High Court to the Sikkim High Court. Issues pertaining to the impeachment against the Chief Justice are ongoing with a notice admitted in the Parliament and a three member Rajya Sabha Committee overlooking the charges.
Minister of Law and Justice Veerappa Moily has said, “The Centre would introduce a Bill on accountability of Judges in the next three months and according to the Bill, tainted individuals would no longer be appointed as Judges or elevated to the Supreme Court.”
Bar & Bench has covered Justice P.D. Dinakaran’s plight over the judicial system:
