Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case: Ram Jethmalani to represent the former Home Minister Amit Shah

The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigations) Judge AY Dave on July 25 has sent former Home Minister, Amit Shah to judicial custody till August 7. Shah has been charged with murder, kidnapping, extortion and destruction of evidence in the fake encounter killings of gangster Sohrabuddin and his wife Kauser Bi in the year 2005.

Shah quoted, the charges against him as "fabricated and politically motivated". Referring to Sohrabuddin, he alleged that forty AK-47 rifles, about a hundred grenades and Rs 1 lakh ($ 2,200) worth of ammunition were recovered from his house. He resigned from the State Government on July 24.

Shah is being represented by Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association along with criminal lawyers from Gujarat, Nirupam Nanavati, Devang Nanavati and Mitesh Amin.  Former Law Minister Ram Jethmalani was also nominated as the Rajya Sabha MP from BJP last month and is supposed to be close to the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier today, N.K. Amin, presently in prison and Ex- Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) through his lawyer Jagdish Ramani said, he is filing for his client Amin, to become an approver in the case.

Rajesh Modi is also representing Amin who said "There is a threat to Amin's life from the other accused as all are lodged together in the Sabarmati Central Jail here. So we have decided to move an application for jail transfer for Amin."
