The inaugural match of the 2nd SILF – Khushal Inter-Law Firms Cricket Cup held on Sunday, saw impressive gameplay by Luthra’s Tarun Mehrishi.
Trilegal, batting first, managed to pile on a score of 145 in the allocated 20 overs. Tarun went about demolishing the opposition's bowling. The keeper-batsman was at his best, scoring a stellar 102, helping Luthra reach the desired target easily, with 6 overs to spare.
The tournament is organized jointly in Delhi by the Society of Indian Law Firms and Kushal Coaching Club, started by former India player Gurcharan Singh. With 16 firms participating in the Twenty-20 format tournament, the inaugural match was held at the Gyan Bharati School ground in Delhi. The 16 firms are divided into 4 pools of 4 firms. Each team will play 3 matches with the top two teams from each pool qualifying for the quarter finals.
Inter-law firm sporting events are gaining popularity, especially cricket. The Turf-Twenty-20 tournament for law firms in last November had seen the participation of 12 law firms. However, it is not just the competitive spirit or passion for the game that brings the lawyers together for the match. “Apart from the game, lawyers like to interact outside of the profession, chill out, and go for a beer or two maybe. It offers a platform for them to interact,” Tarun told Bar & Bench.
