VI ITechLaw conference concludes; resounding success

The 6th International Asian Conference organized by the International Technology Law Association held on February 4 and 5 in Bangalore, saw attendance of about 250 members from the legal and technology fields from both India and abroad.

The conference looked to provide a platform to allow for the discussion on the latest commercial and technology related laws which would impact the ever- growing sector of Information Technology, and evidently did so with a large amount of success.

‘The Travelling Fellowship Award’ which awards deserving Indian lawyers an opportunity to travel abroad for a period of 6 weeks and work with various prestigious law firms in Europe and USA, was won by Nirupam Lodha, an associate at Luthra & Luthra’s IP practice group.

The two-day conference, saw a variety of lawyers and professionals in related domains, participating in the conference, started with a welcome address from Dr. Ursula Widmer, the President of the International Technology Law Association and a keynote address by Chetan Maini, the Chief Executive Officer of Reva India, saw firms of various nationalities; French, Indian, Australian, German, British and American, amongst others.

The most awaited session at the conference, titled ‘Practice of Law in India – Latest Developments’, and had President of the Society of Indian Legal Firms, Lalit Bhasin, Founder Partner of K&S Partners and J.Sagar Associates, Jyoti Sagar and Shweta Bharati, a Partner at Hammurabi & Solomon leading the discussions with Nikhil Chandra of Rainmaker, moderating. Lalit Bhasin, who discussed issues relating to the famous Bombay High Court Judgment sparked a heated debate amongst the delegates at the conference.

The conference was sponsored by some of the global law firms which included, Duane Morris, Pillsbury Law and Greenberg Traurig among other Indian law firms of Poovayya & Co., Trilegal , AZB & Partners. Several of the speakers at the conference have made their presentations public here.
