Surana Surana befriends Uruguayan law firm Ferrere

Speaking to Bar & Bench, the Founding Partner of Surana & Surana, who handles the firm’s Latin America related work, P.S. Surana [pictured], said, “There is tremendous potential to grow in the South American region and Ferrere International was one of the best fits to join hands with. The Firm has young talent who have international experience.” He also mentioned that a majority of Uruguayan LLM graduates from Harvard were recruited by Ferrere..Surana & Surana is a 60-lawyer firm, a strength that is similar to Ferrere’s workforce. The two firms are jointly releasing a report today on Indo-South American relations in trade and investment, to mark the launch of their alliance. The event will be presided over by the President of the Lower House of Representatives of Uruguay, Roque Arregui, and Ivonne Pasada. The report is a collaborative effort between associates of the two firms, and has been advised by Dr. Vinod Surana, CEO of Surana & Surana, and Andres Cerisola, Managing Partner of Ferrere..The alliance between Surana and Ferrere is a first. Most Indian firms prefer to ink alliances with established firms in the UK and the US, although Vaish Associates also diverged from the known path when they entered into a best friends relationship with the Chinese-Singaporean joint venture, Dacheng Central Chambers in September last year. Although the South American market has made major strides in the legal outsourcing sector due to its geographical closeness to the United States, this is the first time an Indian firm has explored the option of breaking into the South American legal market through a best friends agreement.
